The responsibility of setting up, developing, or updating a website for any organization is a challenge.  Here is a quick look at the process to help you grasp it better.

Websites are either static or dynamic.  There is no truly static website in reality but this distinction is made to make it easier to understand.  Any New York Custom Web Design company will be able to set up a site - the terms refer to the inner workings of a site and the functionality of features on the said site.  Either choice could be the right one for an organization but how do you choose?

Static websites are built with individual pages and their relevant files in HTML and the support styling files are in CSS; media is also part of the set up.  Files are usually written offline using software like Dreamweaver and then published on a server connected to the Web.  There may be other software which could create web pages - good design requires the right techniques and tools.

Files which are published on a server use software called FTP client - this could be built in to the program or be a standalone.  The web server is an application which runs on a specialized computer connected to the Internet.  The web server does what the name implies - it brings up the files when requested by anyone on the Internet.

Many organizations don't have their own servers and will use hosts to do their work.  These services can cost anywhere from a few dollars to a lot, depending on the scope of the site and the amount of traffic received by the site.  In a static site, when content has to be changed, someone has to work on the file and then publish it again to the server.  This has the effect of overwriting the original file.  This process can be tedious as every change has to be made this way.

Dynamic sites are interactive for the reason that they provide the user with the ability to change the content directly and provide feedback on an as needed basis.  The reason it is called dynamic is the way they are built and maintained.  Every Web Design company offers businesses the facility to manage their content, styling files and every relevant web document through content management system applications.  This content is put on to sites using languages such as PHP, Java, Cold Fusion or ASP. These are all similar to HTML - but far more complex and with a lot more features.

The template is likened to a Christmas tree where the template is the tree with a trunk and many branches. Content is what one would call the decorations and each page uses this tree.  The lights and decor will vary from page to page as well.  There are many applications and each one has slightly different features.  CM Systems are used to create and edit content and run on the web - no additional software needed.  They also have in built editors which make it very user friendly with many wonderful features.  The way to choose is to decide based on the size of an organization. This will then determine how often the content has to be updated and who will manage it. Another thing to consider is how interactive the site has to be as well.
